I have really been interested in our current theme in Geography. I have always been interested in the Universe. One thing that really intrigued me was Theia and how the Moon was formed. I have read more into it to prove this hypothesis that Earth and the Moon were once a single body. It is interesting to read futher into it because Theia isn't actually proven to be true, because where would a planet as big as Theia come from? If they can find remains of Theia then they could prove where the Moon as come from. Interesting :). I have a few links about Theia below.

I'm not sure how the Moon and Earth formed at the same time, perhaps as the sediments flew spun around the sun, the dust started collecting on different sides but where on the same course. Earth being larger than the other grouping of the dust: Thea, when they collided, it was Earth that survived. This is just a guess. I haven't done actual research on that specific topic. Although i do know of other theories where the moon came from a different part of space, I think those theories are unlikely.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger and had TV I would watch NOVA shows, in one NOVA show it said that when the moon collided, it left its mark on the Pacific basin and that there is an actual compound that or material that is missing from the Pacific basin but is found all over the rest of the world and that on the moon, there is that compound/material on only one area and the rest of it lacks it, which could be the area where the Moon and Earth collided. Also supporting the theory that the two collided. Unfortunately, I can only find sites that say: Moon left a scar of the Pacific basin, or the collision of the Moon and Earth created the Pacific basin, but I can't find a site that says what compound/material is missing from the Pacific basin and I don't remember what it was from the NOVA shows.
I haven't found much information on how the earth and the moon were created as well. We all learned that it was the earths twin, Theia, that created our moon. But what i also learned is that science is Always changing. Another scientific "fact" what i learned is that their were materials (meators) floating in space. But how can one meator rite be as massive as Theia? Hopefully this question can be answered soon!
